During the Vietnam War, on the morning of March 16, 1968, the Charlie Company (CC), led by Lieutenant William L. Calley and ordered by Captain Ernest Medina, set out to the village of My Lai to carry out their ‘Search and Destroy’ order. Fourteen soldiers ruthlessly killed hundreds of men, women, children and infants. This was revealed more than a year after by Ronald Ridenhour and Seymour Hersh. It was the first widely publicized massacre that was accompanied by graphic photographs and veteran statements. This brought light to the horrors perpetuated by the United States (U.S), intensifying the anti-war movements.
